To vent or not to vent?

Thursday, July 15, 2010
That is today's question.

I treasure my privacy almost as much as I pride myself in my honesty, but at this moment I find myself torn between putting my frustrations out here for sympathy, input, whatever or just eating it and trying to figure it out myself and continuing to stress and fret. I feel like it's always better to talk things through, but the imperative word is "talk" - right now I'm just stewing.

Grr.

Well, whatever. It gives me a good enough reason to chat with the GBF and hang with Dubs tonight before I run some of my stress off.

If it's about or because of someone it may be best to talk to a friend direct rather than public vent to assure minimal damage/future regret....

Of course, sir - this is not a forum to throw someone under the bus without a chance to defend themselves or to gossip needlessly. I do understand that in every situation there are two sides and, despite what you may think, quite often I am aware of what I contribute to any difficulties that may arise.

Though occasionally a girl just needs the opportunity to get sh*t off her chest. There's also the chance that an outsider's perspective can freshen up a shitty situation.

Mostly, I felt like it's not right if I just document the happyshiny moments of my life - I may be a very lucky girl, but clearly no one's life is perfect. I wouldn't want anyone to think that I'm trying to pretend mine is.

I oftentimes view my blog and/or writing in general as my pillow that I can cry into or my dashboard that I can erradicaly shout at. It can be cathartic to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and release what you're feeling and sometimes you don't even realize everything that has built up until you do so. For me, it's always easiest to vent in word if only so that I can sort my thoughts out and confront myself with the truth of what I've written. With that said, I've definitely regretted voicing my frustration publicly if I do so in the heat of the moment.

Sorry you're stressed and I hope you feel better about whatever it is right quick!

Exaaaactly, thank you - writing it out definitely helps me gain clarity as well as release and dispel some of the negative energy.

I do keep in mind that not only do some of my friends and family read this, but my boyfriend's friends and fans do too - it's not as if I am writing in my private journal, so I try to give the respect that I would hope to receive in return. That doesn't mean that all conflicts will be off-limits though...

Thanks, lady. :) I'm working on it.
